After a few (actually a lot) of leaks of the chinese giants own take to Macbook Air , the Notebook Air it was very much confirmed that Mi Note Pro will not be the only star of the 27th July launch. The company has launched the notebook in 2 variants and Apple's Macbook Air will be the closest competitors , no doubts on that.
But is it actually decent enough to face the all the time portable and favorite?
Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air Highlights
The 13.3 inch version of the notebook looks a lot like the macbook pro series although keeping the aesthetics under control with a weight of just 1.28kg, quite decent for a 13.3 inch machine. The company still managed to put a core i5 (6th gen) with 8gb DDR4 ram and 256gb SSD storage. There is also a SATA slot for anyone who wants additional storage. The bigger model also has a dedicated 1gb nVidia 940MX graphic card for some amount of graphic intensive work. You also get a HDMI port and 2 USB 3.0 ports.
Price : CNY 4999 OR $750
If you want even more portability, the 12.5 inch version may fir your needs. Its just 1.07kg light although there are a few cut downs here and there in terms of specs. You get a core M3 + 4gb ram combo here with 128gb of SSD storage. Fortunately there is also a SATA slot here too for additional storage. However the ports are trimmed down with just one USB 3.0 Port and a HDMI port.
Price: CNY 3499 OR $520
Both of the devices uses a full-HD display and runs Windows 10 out of the box.
Should Apple Worry?
Everything comes down to if it will really bother Apple! My Opinion- NO!
By no means Xiaomi Notebook Air is a bad device but its not anything ground breaking too especially when it comes to pricing, something which the chinese manufacturer is rewarded everytime. The $750 price tag wont be a big deal for someone who owns a macbook but you would also be missing on a lot of stuff, Mac OS and retina display to name a few. Plus its the very first entry for Xiaomi in the segment. There are already a lot of manufacturers offering almost everything xiaomi is and that too in similar price bracket.
A $100 price cut could make it a better deal though. Still if you love xiaomi products and services the machine is good to work with, its light,portable and has the power too!
